Mace, the international consultancy and construction company, has obtained the first IMMUNE Building Standard™ (IMMUNE™) certification globally for its headquarters at 155 Moorgate in the City of London.

Located in London’s historic centre and primary central business district, the office building at 155 Moorgate has achieved the IMMUNE™ – Powerful certification (equivalent to 4 stars), recognising the successful measures implemented to keep employees safe during a global pandemic.

IMMUNE™ is an open-source building standard funded by Genesis Property, a market-leading European property company, designed specifically to help combat health risks in the workplace, reduce fears, particularly in the context of Covid-19, and build trust amongst employers and employees in their efforts to return to the office safely. The certification is dedicated to office buildings and can also be adapted for buildings in use for hospitality, retail, health care, education, or residential purposes.

Mace’s headquarters have been awarded the certification following an independent assessment process based on the IMMUNE™ Assessment Scoring Index, conducted by Build Green, an authorised building assessor and a contributor to the development of the standard. The certification demonstrates Mace’s diligence and commitment to implement a Healthy by Design approach, considering a coherent collection of 100+ measures and best practices recommended by IMMUNE™.

Maud Santamaria, Head of Workplace Experience at Mace said:

“The IMMUNE Building Standard™” demonstrably recognises the health and wellbeing measures we have implemented at Mace’s HQ in London, keeping our employees safe during the pandemic. The Facilities Management team at Mace has worked in partnership with colleagues from across the business to allow operations to continue from all our offices, implementing control measures that focus on the wellbeing of all our staff. Coupled with flexible working arrangements, we have created a workplace environment for our colleagues where they can work and perform safely.”

Liviu Tudor, President of the European Property Federation, and Founder and President of Genesis Property, the initiator of the IMMUNE Building StandardTM , said:

“I am confident that this is just the first step towards ensuring healthier office environments across the globe.”

“The Covid-19 pandemic has radically changed the way we live, work and interact and has underscored how important it is for companies around the world to be prepared for such a crisis. Except hospitals, clinics and “clean rooms” dedicated to scientific research, no other building has been truly prepared so far to face a pandemic challenge like Covid-19. Mace has shown outstanding leadership in boosting the immune system of its workplace and certifying its resilience with IMMUNE™.”

About The IMMUNE Building Standard™ (IMMUNE™)

The IMMUNE Building Standard™ (IMMUNE™) is the first, open-source global certification standard that has been launched with a strategy to engineer safer built environments for people and organizations returning to their offices. Inspired by technologies and procedures successfully applied in hospitals and “clean rooms,” it is a set of 100+ recommended measures, technical solutions, and facility management practices, to certify how built environments, at any stage of their life cycle, can withstand present and future health challenges and minimize the impact of a pandemic and a bacteriological or toxicological threat such as COVID-19. IMMUNE™ covers building types such as Offices, Hospitality, Retail, Residential, Health Care, and Education. A property can be awarded one of the three IMMUNE™ labels, Strong – equivalent of 3 stars, Powerful – equivalent of 4 stars or Resilient – equivalent of 5 stars, based on the number of points received during the official assessment. The award demonstrates a building’s diligence and commitment to implementing the Healthy by Design® approach while considering best practices to achieve the IMMUNE™ standard. IMMUNE™ has been pioneered by Mr. Liviu Tudor, European property and development entrepreneur, President of the European Property Federation and Founder of Genesis Property. The project initiated in April 2020, with an R&D investment of €1mn for prototyping and testing to develop the standard. A team of 20 experts from the health, technology, real estate, architectural and engineering sectors were deployed to design the multilateral framework. For further information, click here.
