New research reveals growing unease among European employees about the influence of American corporate practices on their work environments. A survey of 1,000 workers across the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain found that 86% believe U.S. workplace culture is increasingly shaping European businesses.

While some respondents pointed to benefits like higher salaries and entrepreneurial opportunities, others expressed concern about the potential downsides. Key worries include the erosion of work-life balance, job security, and labour protections — with 76% fearing that “always-on” norms could harm mental wellbeing.

Over two-thirds of those surveyed said that labour laws should be strengthened to protect against external influence, and more than a third would consider leaving their role if U.S.-style policies such as longer hours or reduced holidays were introduced.

As global businesses continue to evolve, the findings highlight a need for European organisations to carefully consider the cultural implications of imported workplace models — and to strike a balance that respects regional values, wellbeing and productivity.
